Mezzo-soprano Fedora Barbieri was a native of Trieste, Italy. She made her operatic debut in 1940 in Florence in Cimarosa's Il Matrimonio Segreto. During the 1950s, she often sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. She also appeared regularly in South America, Britain, and Italy during her long career. Her singing partners included such opera greats as Maria Callas and Franco Corelli. Barbieri continued to sing until the early 1990s. She passed away in 2003 at the age of 82. She is particularly well remembered for her Verdi mezzo roles, which suited her perfectly.
